Industrial Training Unit

Brief

Brief on the Industrial Training Unit

The Industrial Training Coordinating Unit is in charge of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), a skill training programme designed to prepare and expose students for real life work experience after graduation.  The need for SIWES arose from a Federal Government’s directive that “all students in higher institutions of learning must, of necessity undergo a compulsory period of industrial training with reputable and accredited organizations in order to satisfy the University requirement”

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, a University of Technology, upgraded the Unit to the Directorate level in 1997 from the initial Committee level headed by a chairman.
