Brief
The Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences was established in 2018 to underpin high-quality medical education, research, and service delivery. It comprises of five (5) integrated departments—Histopathology, Haematology, Medical Microbiology, Chemical Pathology, and Clinical Pharmacology. The faculty synergizes foundational science with clinical relevance to prepare graduates who are competent, compassionate, and innovative. The faculty is mandated to deliver a rigorous, evidence-based education that integrates basic sciences with clinical applications so as to produce competent medical graduates and postgraduate trainees capable of safe, ethical, and patient-centred care. In addition, the faculty is expected to advance research, innovation, and scholarly activity in the health sciences to improve health outcomes.
The faculty currently offer the following programmes:
• MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) – integrated core medical curriculum with foundation in basic clinical sciences
• Postgraduate Training: Residency training programmes in partnership with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa university Teaching Hospital

• Multidisciplinary integration of five core departments under one faculty, enabling holistic medical education and research
• Early exposure to clinical-pathology interface through integrated curricula, case discussions, and practical training.
