Department of Animal Production
The Department was established 1984/85 session, it started with two major fields of specialization namely Animal Breeding and Genetics, and Animal Nutrition. Presently, it has expanded to Animal Products and Handling, Reproductive/Environmental Physiology and Animal Production and Health.
Also, with initial staff strength of less than fifteen (15), it has grown to 27 academic staff covering all fields of specialization.
Admission Requirement
Students intending to pursue a degree of any of the programmes in Agriculture are required to have passed the prescribed courses offered at 100–level in the School of Science. For entry into the University with the intention to read Agriculture, students will be required to pass at least five subjects at credit level in the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) or any other equivalent examinations. These must include Mathematics and English Language. In addition, the following subjects must be passed at credit level: Biological Science (Biology, Agric. Science) and Chemistry and /or Physics.
Students wishing to come through Direct Entry must have GCE ‘A” level credit passes or equivalent in at least three other subjects apart from the above subjects including Mathematics and English Language.
Holders of the following qualifications from well recognized institutions and who meet SSCE/GCE ‘O” level requirements listed above may also be considered for admission into:
(Agric) Tech 200 Level
1. Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Agriculture with overall DISTINCTION Pass
2. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture with an overall CREDIT Pass
3. National Certificate of Education (NCE) in Agricultural Science with at least an overall CREDIT Pass.
