Brief about the Department
The Department of Medical Microbiology is a dynamic and essential academic unit dedicated to the study of microorganisms of medical importance including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, their critical roles in human health and diseases. The department gives basic knowledge of infectious diseases and its diagnosis to MBBS and BDS students.
Mandate: To train highly skilled and ethically sound medical graduates capable of identifying, analyzing, and controlling pathogenic microorganisms, contributing to disease diagnosis, prevention, and public health improvement.

Aims & Objectives

Philosophy 

To foster an environment of research-driven learning, translating fundamental microbiological knowledge into practical applications relevant to clinical medicine and community health. Medical Microbiology department impart basic knowledge of systematic approach in the management of infectious diseases to the students. The academic and technical staff of the department tries to simplify the whole concept of infectious diseases by way of identifying the aetiological agents, describing the pathogenesis in relation with clinical features and stepwise investigation and standard treatment approach.

Academic focus area: The department of Medical Microbiology college of medical sciences is structured in such a way that it teaches all aspect of Medical Microbiology which encompasses;
Medical Bacteriology
Medical Immunology
Medical Mycology
Medical Parasitology
Medical Virology
These include study of the properties of the pathogens, their epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, treatments, prevention and control.

Admission requirement

The admission requirement is as for MBBS/BDS programs. We are being fed by sister departments in the college after students have successfully completed their first MBBS professional examination. However, the department is hopeful of starting a higher degree programs in the nearest future offering Masters and PhD in Clinical Microbiology with basic admission requirement being MBBS/BDS degree holders.
