B.Tech. Technology Education (Automobile, Building, Electrical/Electronic, Metalwork and Woodwork)

Brief

The Bachelor of Technology Education in Automobile Technology Education, Building Technology Education, Electrical/Electronic Technology Education, Metalwork Technology Education and Woodwork Technology Education are degree specializations offer in the department of Vocational and Technology Education. In line with the vision of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, the Technology Education specializations seek to become a great centre of excellence from where qualitative Technology Education Educators can be trained for the advancement of technology in Nigeria and the world at large. The Automobile Technology Education, Building Technology Education, Electrical/Electronic Technology Education, Metalwork Technology Education and Woodwork Technology Education in the Department of Vocational and Technology Education have the mandate to train highly skilled personnel with the 21st century employability skills for the educational, industrial and economic development of the Nation. The philosophy of Bachelor of Technology Education aimed at complete development of the individual pre-service teacher to be a committed and efficient breed of Educators for Secondary Schools, Technical Colleges, Colleges of Education and Polytechnics, as well as the Industrial and private sectors of the economy. The minimum duration of the programme is five and four academic sessions for students admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry modes respectively. Students in the programme are required to take a Minimum of 150 credit Units before their graduation as specified in the NUC-CCMAS.  Thus, 70% (105 credit units) of the minimum graduation requirement in NUC-CCMAS specification comes from the NUC while 30% (45 credit units) comes from the various specialization units of the programme through the department to gives the minimum graduation requirement of student.

The objectives of Technology Education Programme are to provide a course of instruction in the five (5) specializations of the Technology Education for the pursuit and acquisition of learning and knowledge for services to humanity; provide a sound foundation for interested graduates to pursue a higher degree in the various  specializations of the Technology Education programme; equip pre-service teachers with pedagogy and practical skills; develop 21st century employability skills for the efficient discharge of their duties; and  develop in the pre-service teachers the spirit of self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

Aims & Objectives

The specific objectives of the Software Engineering programme for students are to:

  1. provide them a solid foundation in computing in such areas as problem solving, algorithm design, data structures and programming basics;
  2. demonstrate practical skills in requirements analysis, system design, software architecture, software metrics, verification and validation, and the software engineering process in general for the production of high quality software-based systems;
  3. demonstrate expertise in programming in a number of different languages with emphasis on the production of robust, reliable, cost-effective and secure systems that are based on sound design and development principles;
  4. train them to be able to effectively and efficiently manage the development of large, complex and critical software; and
  5. enable them to have the requisite knowledge and skill base as well as adequate practical exposure and high ethical standards for the limitless professional career opportunities

(including self-employment) in the software industry.

The philosophy of Software Engineering focuses on producing graduates who have the required knowledge and skills to develop and maintain quality software systems of scale for governments, organisations and businesses that adequately fulfil the functional and non- functional requirements of the systems within time and budget constraints.
