Brief
Department of Surgery is one of the clinical departments in the faculty of clinical sciences, college of medical sciences. It was established in the year 2017 under the leadership of Dr. Haruna Usman Liman as the pioneer head of department. After his tenure Dr. Baje Salihu Makama took over the leadership of the department until 2025 when election was conducted and Dr. Kefas John Bwala emerged as the third Head of department. The department is composed of 5 sub-specialized units of Paediatric Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, General Surgery and Plastic Surgery as at the time of this report.

FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department offers undergraduate training for medical students in all surgical subspecialities as well as postgraduate training for resident doctors and carries out research as well as clinical services that serves as training opportunities for medical students in the clinics, trauma center, wards and theaters.
