Dairy Research & Development Centre (DRDC)
Prof. Demo Kalla
(Acting Director, Dairy Research & Development Centre)
Brief
The Dairy Research and Development Centre for Excellence (DRDCE) at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, was established as a response to Nigeria’s growing need for self-sufficiency in dairy production. For decades, the country has depended heavily on imported milk and milk products, while local farmers face challenges such as low productivity, limited access to technology, and poor storage facilities. Our centre stands as a bridge between academic research, industry innovation, and practical solutions for farmers. By combining scientific expertise with hands-on training and modern processing technologies, we are creating sustainable pathways for Nigeria’s dairy value chain.
Mission
To conduct demand-driven research into the entire dairy value chain using improved animal genetic resources
Vision
To be a world class centre for dairy research and development comparable to any in the world
Core Values
Innovation, Excellence, Integrity, Collaboration and Sustainability
Our Target
Our target is to show to our brothers that the best way to keep your cattle is to keep it around your house, feed it well and you will find out that you don’t have to move around. The sense in it is that the more you move, the more you lose energy whilst the more you stay in one place, the more you grow fatter and we all want our cows to grow fatter to give higher production of milk “
